Guardian Life Insurance Company
Guardian Life Insurance Co History
The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (or Guardian, for short) is founded in 1860. Guardian founder Hugo Wesendonck, a German civil rights lawyer, came to the United States after being accused of treason for wanting to unify his home nation. Using funds donated by fellow German refugees, he opened Germania Life Insurance Company in 1860 to insure the lives of the ever-increasing number of Germans immigrating to America. As the years went on, he opened branches in California, New Mexico, Colorado, and both North and South Dakota. In 1917, they changed to the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. Guardian has paid dividend over 125 years.
